As COVID-19 cases continue to increase you might be eager to try and sanitize everything in sight. It might be tempting to combine chemicals to try and create a potent cleaning solution.

However, mixing cleaning chemicals can have dangerous consequences due to their chemical makeup. Potential hazardous can include fumes or even an explosion. Always read warning labels and make sure that you or your commercial cleaning service never mix the following cleaning products:

1. Bleach and Ammonia

When combined they produce a toxic gas known as chloramine. Depending on how much of this gas has been released, it can be a potentially strong irritant causing airway damage and even cause death.

2. Hydrogen Peroxide and Vinegar

Combining these two chemicals creates peracetic acid, which can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory system.

3. Bleach and Vinegar

Even mixing small amounts of these cleaning chemicals will produce chlorine gas which is likely to irritate your eyes, throat, and nose. If you notice a strong odor after mixing these two cleaners it is always a good idea to leave the area.

4. Bleach and Running Alcohol

Mixing these two chemicals makes chloroform, which is highly toxic. It can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. It can also lead to eye, lungs, nervous system, skin, liver, and kidney damage. Leave the area immediately, call poison control, and seek medical attention.
